Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Increases Blue Economy Development Collaboration

The Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) through the Directorate General of Marine and Marine Space Management is increasing collaboration on the governance of blue economic development through the Blue Health pillar within the framework of the National Blue Agenda Partnership Action (NBAAP) involving relevant ministries/institutions, the United Nations- Nation (UN) and other development partners.

“KKP's blue economy priority program is in line with and supports the National Blue Agenda Partnership Action. "The activities carried out by the Directorate General of Marine and Marine Spatial Management (Ditjen PKRL) in particular also focus on ocean health and ocean accounts," said Secretary of the Directorate General of Marine Spatial Management (Sesditjen PRL) KKP Kusdiantoro in Jakarta, Wednesday.

As Co-Chair of the Blue Health Task Force pillar together with USAID, United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) and BRGM during the discussion and preparation of NBAAP steering committee materials for the Blue Health Task Force, Kusdiantoro said that this was one of the key strategies for implementing the mandate NBAAP Blue Health Task Force in supporting the achievement of National Medium Term Development Plan (RPJMN) targets and global commitments.

NBAAP was launched on November 14 2022 at the G20 Summit in Bali. This strategic partnership is an effort to accelerate the achievement of the 2020-2024 RPJMN and Indonesian Maritime Policy  targets in the maritime and marine sector with four main pillars, namely blue health, blue food, blue innovation, and blue finance where a task force is formed for each of these pillars.

"The National Blue Agenda Actions Partnership (NBAAP) was initiated to accelerate the achievement of maritime and marine sector development in accordance with the national medium long term plan (RPJMN). "For this reason, NBAAP plays an important role in achieving the vision of becoming a developed country by 2045. Therefore, the Indonesian Government fully supports the NBAAP program's commitment," said Kusdiantoro.

He further said that as a follow-up to the pre-steering committee meeting on December 15 2023, especially for the Blue Health Task Force, it was necessary to gather input from relevant stakeholders regarding activities that could support the blue health pillar and the 2045 blue economy road map prepared by National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas).

Meanwhile, Plt. Assistant Deputy for Increasing Competitiveness at the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment, Andreas A Hutahaean, explained that this partnership is not only limited to the government. Collaboration together by leveraging each partner's unique strengths and perspectives can drive innovation, promote knowledge sharing and enhance capacity building efforts on a global scale.

“We are currently carrying out program mapping which is used as basic data to identify gaps and opportunities. "The next step, we use it to formulate strategies and develop action plans to achieve the blue agenda," said Andreas Hutahaean.

The meeting, which was also attended by relevant government agencies, aimed to gather material and information regarding developments in the implementation of the Blue Health Task Force program which was presented at the NBAAP Steering Committee meeting at the end of January 2024, led by the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment. The results of the NBAAP Steering Committee meeting became input in the preparation of the 2025-2029 RPJMN and input into the direction of developing priority sectors for the Indonesian Blue Economy Roadmap 2023-2045.
