Shrimp exporters are advised to try markets outside the USA

The Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) invites Indonesian shrimp exporters to start exploring markets outside the United States (US), amidst the government's efforts to resolve anti-dumping and countervailing duties (CVD) issues.

KKP is also opening alternative market access for Indonesian shrimp commodities in a number of countries, both in Asia, Africa and Europe.

"Including the Middle East, Eastern Europe, South Africa, of course strengthening global shrimp market access in order to open up potential non-traditional markets is important," said Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Sakti Wahyu Trenggono after meeting with representatives of the Shrimp Club Indonesia (SCI) in Jakarta some time ago.

Minister Trenggono also sees China as an alternative market for Indonesian shrimp commodities. This refers to the high growth of China's shrimp market which has increased very significantly over the last 5 years (2018-2022), namely 49 percent per year and reaching US$ 6.3 billion in 2022, while Indonesia's share is still very small, namely only 1.8 percent. in that year.

Regarding efforts to open alternative market access, Minister Trenggono also encouraged consolidation and active participation of farmers, suppliers, processors, shrimp associations, APRINDO, PPJI, PHRI and Horeka to increase domestic market absorption. Minister Trenggono also asked that innovation continue to be carried out to answer market needs.

"Of course, synergy with business actors is very important, and we are very happy with the optimism of shrimp business actors regarding this commodity. Don't forget to also innovate ready-to-cook and ready-to-eat shrimp products to answer market needs and trends," he explained.

Likewise, the Director General of Strengthening the Competitiveness of Marine and Fishery Products (PDSPKP), Budi Sulistiyo, admitted that he was currently conducting an analysis of the shrimp market, both global and domestic, the results of which will be distributed periodically to business actors.
